Your Skye cruise crew... Scott & Mary
We first met in New Zealand in 1998 through our mutual enthusiasm and passion for sailing – and soon realised that we had each found an ally and a partner ready for adventure and a new lifestyle. We decided we wanted our sailing to take us further together and began yachting professionally in 2002 – although at the time we didn't realise it was to be a new ‘career’!
Since then we have sailed professionally across the Atlantic, in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, around New Zealand, Northern Europe - and, of course, Scotland and elsewhere in the UK. It has been a varied and hugely interesting career which has included working on luxury charter boats and private super-yachts, cross-ocean vessel deliveries, managing yard refits - and in particular a very happy two years working for the Majestic Line on the Scottish West coast. All of this helped us develop the skills and experience to realise our ambition - buying and running our own charter cruising vessel here among the islands of West Scotland.
Through this time we have also developed our own specialist areas of expertise; as well as being a very experienced captain, Scott is also a qualified marine engineer and surveyor, and Mary has worked as a professional chef both on yachts and ashore for many years and has chef qualifications from both NZ and the UK. We both also hold certificates in Food Safety and Mary is qualified as a Food Safety trainer.
Both of us are commercially qualified to act as skipper of Red Moon, and we both hold maritime safety certificates covering medical and first aid training, fire-fighting and sea survival. We both have strong, safe seamanship abilities and well-honed hospitality skills - but also a great range of complementary strengths and talents; Mary as an experienced mate on deck, a versatile chef and efficient interior manager, and Scott in boat handling, navigation and engineering,
In short, we are not only a welcoming couple; we make a great team with extremely high standards, able to exchange professional roles if needed– and, perhaps more importantly, really enjoy having guests on board and sharing both Red Moon and this terrific part of the world.
